Dear Families,

As we embark on a New Year, and new month, we are looking forward to many exciting events that include returning to our newly renovated building in the fall.

In addition, we are busily preparing for Ed Smith’s 100th anniversary. The Centennial Committee has been hard at work developing activities that are being planned to celebrate this historic occasion.

Please take a moment to review the activities listed on the Centennial Sign-Up page. There are many different activities and committees to choose from that may interest you.

Simply read over the list and join a committee by emailing the contact person under each activity.

We are hoping to have some parents and community members sign up by January 31st. Our planning committee will meet again in February to compile the list and begin next steps in the planning process. Team leaders will then begin holding their own planning meetings. Each month I hope to bring the entire group together to update everyone on the efforts and network with each other.

This is truly a community effort that includes many of the Ed Smith Alumni. In fact, one of our Alumni, Adam Gaus, has designed and launched our new PTO website. This will be the central location to distribute information, see updates on the renovation & old pictures sent by the historical associations, community members and fellow alumni. Check out the rest of this new website.

As we researched the history of the school, it is clear that this school has been an impressive part of the community for 100 years with a rich history of family, neighborhood, community and excellence. I am proud to be principal at this exciting time at Ed Smith School.

I look forward to this truly historical year for the Ed Smith Community. Please join us to celebrate!

Sincerely,
Samuel Barber
Principal, Ed Smith PK-8 School
